What is the "Green Pallet" (GP) program?

The patent-pending Green Pallet (GP) program is a national identification program for pallets. The pallets of participating companies bear a unique GP logo & number on the side of the pallet. This logo identifies to the end user that this pallet is part of a recycling program. More importantly, this logo informs the end receiver how to return the pallet. GP stenciled pallets are:

Reused by original shippers
Recycled for use in landscaping mulch or fuel
Reclaimed and used as repair components.

As a renewable resource, wood is an environmentally friendly material for pallets. Quality wooden pallets can be used multiple times compared to one-time limited use pallets. A well-managed pallet recovery and reuse program will reduce packaging waste, lower cost and limit the use of virgin timber.

Recovered pallets bearing the GP logo that are reused are certified by The Rainforest Alliance, Smart Wood program under their Rediscovered Wood Certification Program. SmartWood is a program of the Rainforest Alliance, an international conservation organization that works to protect endangered ecosystems and the people and wildlife that live in them by transforming land use practices, business practices, and consumer behavior. Established in 1989, SmartWood is the oldest and most extensive global forest certification program and is accredited by the Forest Stewardship Council for Forest Management and Chain-of-custody certification. SmartWood has eight regional offices and partners with a network of non-profit conservation organizations. SmartWood is headquartered in Richmond, Vermont, USA. Further information about SmartWood can be found at www.smartwood.org.

How exactly does the Green Pallet program work?

gotpallets.com issues a permanent "GP" number for a specific group of pallets whose annual usage is 25,000 units or more. Your current supplier then applies this stencil. It is the company's responsibility to enforce that their pallet supplier applies the stencil on their pallets. The GP number issued will be the pallets identification number, and will be easily recognized by recyclers that receive these pallets.

Recyclers and receivers of "GP" stenciled pallets login their inventories at gotpallets.com. We in turn will contact the appropriate company(s) when the inventoried amounts are available. Recyclers or receivers of GP pallets may be paid a sorting fee or repair fee for pallets they acquire. Repairs should not be performed until contacting gotpallets.com. In some cases pallets may be picked up and sent to a regional repair facility. A repair specification is assigned to all GP pallets. Unless the pallets are stenciled "property of " or "owned by" the recycler has no legal obligation to return or sell the pallets. It is important to note that companies are also not responsible for the purchase of "GP" pallets unless they chose to. The GP stencil identifies recycling options for the pallet, but this does not imply ownership unless marked as such. The program is designed to encourage the use of high quality pallets which may be used multiple times rather than limited use. The patent-pending "Green Pallet" program has demonstrated that environmental benefits, savings, and high quality can occur with proper pallet management. Call our toll free number 1-800-611-8964 to get your pallets involved in the GP program.
